Is it slow to be ready to shoot after turning on like the Z 6ii?

I hope the Z7iii comes with global shutter and dual XSpeed 7s!

Good coverage Matt and Joe. Nikon did a really good job putting the most they could in a camera at this price point. Nikon does need to finally give us pre-capture RAW though. It’s certainly high on everyone's request list. I’m not an expert on the hardware limitations of the Z9, Z8, or Z6 III but other camera makers have shown it’s doable. I wouldn’t care if Nikon had to decrease the time somewhat versus what can be done using jpeg. You would think Nikon could do it that way and/or by using High Efficiency* if they had to and that would still be a good option over just jpeg.

This is a video camera, yet there is no new log profile. It doesn't work. NAH.

Seems silly for Nikon go still offer the 24-70mm f4 Z S lens now that this 24-120mm is available. $100 more and you get that extra reach out to 120mm.

Wasn't going to get it - but dang....looks like I should add one to the kit. But it won't be for a while. Glad I didn't get a Zf! Unless Nikon comes out with a really nice Z50ii...

Watching this after the fact, was spending many hours reviewing data on the Z6III and putting together a spreadsheet on differences between the Z6III and the Z6II and Z8. Mozman sent me a text telling me you were on but unfortunately I didn't notice, great show as always, nice to see Joe. I think that those who were waiting for a more affordable body that has high performance and doesn't break the bank to finally make the switch to mirrorless, this should be it. For others a more than competent camera as a 2nd camera for Z9 or Z8 owners as well, looks like another winner for Nikon. Take care guys. - Jeff

Does Z8 have a HDR mode in raw format?

The issue in Europe is the price. I can buy a new Z8 for £2,800 from a UK shop, and a new Zf for £1,600 from a UK shop. The Z6 III is £2,700. The price is well above what I would pay for a camera for my hobby. My Z6 will last many more years. Maybe when the Z6 III is on clearance, I will buy one.

Well done Nikon! As a Z9 owner , I am not planning to buy this one, but on second thought, maybe this would make a great second body all thought my Z6 still works great!

Tempting but, my next jump will be for minimum 32/33 MP. For a still shooter, I think only tracking is improved mainly. Will wait for z7iii, if out of budget, will see Sony a7riv used.

I do think there is a place for a Z7III if it lends itself to a different use case to the Z6III and Z8. Slow, ultimate quality including low light. What would be really amazing would be if they could make a sensor that could somehow allow for both full spectrum photography and visible light photography without physically replacing the filter on the sensor. Nikon would lead in IR, UV and astrophotography.

How many focus point some of them say 299 and you are saying 273 Sir Bit confused

The z6 II was not much of an upgrade from the original z6. To me it wasn't worth trading up if you had a z6. This is not just an upgrade. This is a huge leap. Nikon rushed to get a mirrorless camera out. The z6 II is what should have come out first. I just paid for a wedding so I won't be buying this camera this year but I just may sell my z6 II next year and replace it with this one. If this has come out sooner I might not have bought a z8. But I love my z8 as well. Some people don't like the fully articulatingscreen but I have one on my Canon T6s. It really comes in handy in tight situations when you can't get behind the camera. I've set my Canon on a tripod beside a creek where I wasn't able to get behind it. This will also be great for real estate photography when you need to set the camera up on the corner of a room.

This is not a 24,5 MP Z8. The Z8 sensor is about 5 times faster. This gives you a lot of advantages, like better AF and blackout-free EVF. The Z8 has a lot of other smaller advantages that sum up and make a difference, like high-res zoom, illuminated buttons, more buttons, no crop in any video setting, etc.

The partically stacked sensor will also likely decrease the dynamic range and increase read noise compared to a conventional BSI, it will also bring more hot pixels during longer exposures (astro-landscapes for example). So for stills and some video, the Z6II would likely be the better option.
